FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need a doula?
You certainly can give birth without a doula!  Woman do everyday and your body knows just how to give birth to your baby already.
The real question is do you want to?

What are the benefits of having a doula?
Many studies have been conducted on the benefits of having a trained labor support person (AKA doula) during labor and
birth.  Some of these benefits include:

shorter labors
decrease in chances of cesarean section
less likely to need pain meds or epidurals
less likely to need the use of pitocin
reported increase in satisfaction with partner

What about my partner?  Can't they be my doula?
Your partner knows and loves you best.  They are absolutely irreplaceable.  But sometimes partners need support to.  If this is your
first pregnancy it is likely that your partner may never have seen a birth.  Videos only do so much and occasionally the sights and
sounds of birth can be alarming.  Watching a loved one in the throes of labor can be overwhelming.  A doula not only supports the
mother and baby, she also supports the partner.
